A must-have for clients in 2024
By 2024, charging is no longer a secondary concern in luxury yachting. According to Deloitte’s Global Marina Trends 2024 report, over 40% of marinas in the Western Mediterranean have already invested in high-power charging infrastructure (source: Deloitte, Global Marina Trends 2024).
Owners and captains no longer just want a clean boat — they demand a seamless experience, where access to fast charging in premium ports (Monaco, Antibes, Ibiza, Porto Cervo) is as essential as provisioning or concierge services.
Concrete rollout across the Mediterranean
Several flagship projects were launched in 2024:
– Monaco: deployment of DC chargers up to 150 kW in Port Hercule, in partnership with SMEG (source: Monaco Energy Transition, 2024).
– Antibes (Port Vauban): pilot of 100 kW chargers for electric tenders and luxury shuttles.
– Balearics: the local government launched the “Nautisme Durable 2030” plan, including electrification of 12 marinas by 2026 (source: Diario de Mallorca, May 2024).
– Liguria (Italy): Portofino and Santa Margherita Ligure installed the first AC/DC fast charging stations, targeting yachts under 20 m.
These initiatives show that high-power charging is no longer limited to small leisure craft, but is now taking root in the premium yachting segment.
Technical challenges to overcome
Electrical compatibility: most marinas operate 400 V three-phase networks, but scaling to 100–150 kW requires upgraded transformers and smart load management.
Standardisation: adoption of CCS (Combined Charging System) in 2024 as the reference protocol for electric yachting (ISO 15118-20) simplifies the market, but requires shipyards to integrate compatibility.
Peak demand management: during high season, marinas must avoid blackouts by combining stationary storage with smart charging stations.
Value for owners
For high-end clients, premium charging means:
– Reduced time in port (e.g. from 6h AC down to 45 min with DC 150 kW for a 100 kWh tender),
– Convenient logistics: booking a charger as easily as a berth,
– Greater freedom: multiple trips in one day without constraints.
Lanéva’s perspective
At Lanéva Boats, we closely monitor these developments and already design our solutions to be compatible with premium infrastructures.
Our goal is simple: clients should recharge their boat as easily as they charge their luxury EV — fast, reliable, and effortless.
We observe that client perception is rapidly shifting:
– Yesterday, the main concern was range.
– Today, it is about ease and speed of charging.
– Tomorrow, it will be about integration into a global sustainable mobility ecosystem (yacht + tender + car).
2024: a turning point
The electrification of premium marinas changes the equation: it moves electric boating from experiment to a credible operational solution for demanding owners.
And this is exactly where Lanéva intends to remain a pioneer.
