A Custom Project for an Innovative Electric Sailing Yacht
As part of a study carried out on behalf of a Monaco-based broker and a leading Dutch shipyard, Lanéva reimagined the role of the Castoldi Jet Tender 21 — transforming it into an autonomous power generator capable of recharging the high-voltage batteries of an innovative 70-metre electric sailing yacht currently under construction.
This project reflects a core belief: in tomorrow’s yachting industry, every craft on board can play an active role in the yacht’s overall energy performance.
Turning a Tender into a Power Generator
Traditionally, tenders serve a logistical function – transporting guests, crew or equipment.
But as the maritime energy transition accelerates, their potential expands.
The study led by Lanéva demonstrated that a tender can become an active energy producer, harnessing the power of its engine to generate clean, stable and immediately usable electricity for the main yacht.
This approach helps reduce overall weight, enhance energy redundancy, and simplify onboard power management, all while maintaining system performance and safety.
The Castoldi 21: An Ideal Platform
The Castoldi Jet Tender 21 proved to be an ideal platform for this transformation.
Known for its compact design and reliability, it offers a perfect balance between power, lightness and mechanical integration.
The study confirmed the feasibility of a system capable of delivering up to 86 kVA, while preserving the tender’s full navigation performance.
All solutions were designed with a focus on efficiency, safety, and remote supervision, in line with the standards of modern yachting.
Expanding the Study to a 100% Electric Version
In addition to the generator project, this work also enabled Lanéva to conduct a complementary study on the 100% electric version of the Castoldi 21.
This extension provided a broader perspective on the vessel’s potential and opened two development pathways:
– a hybrid configuration, capable of producing energy on demand;
– and a fully electric configuration, for zero-emission propulsion.
Together, these studies showcase our ability to design specific and scalable solutions, tailored to diverse operational profiles – combining propulsion, storage, and onboard energy distribution into a coherent, high-performance system.
Expertise in Tailored Energy Solutions
This project highlights Lanéva’s expertise in developing custom engineering solutions, bridging propulsion, storage, and energy generation.
Each project follows a complete approach:
– functional and energy analysis,
– mechanical and electrical integration,
– system reliability and onboard safety,
– connected supervision and remote maintenance.
This methodology allows Lanéva to address unique challenges – from hybridisation to full-electric conversion – for shipyards, engineering teams, and yacht owners seeking next-generation energy systems.
A New Vision of Yachting
Beyond technical innovation, this project reflects a new philosophy of yachting: interconnected, efficient, and sustainable systems that work together to enhance performance and autonomy.
Transforming a tender into a generator – while exploring its 100% electric version – pushes the boundaries of naval design and supports a new generation of cleaner, smarter, and more coherent vessels.
Lanéva supports shipyards, brokers and yacht owners in their electrification, hybridisation and energy modernisation projects, providing high-value technical expertise and integration capability.
