Pinasse – The soul of Arcachon Bay, electrified

An emblem of a territory. Listed as French maritime heritage, the pinasse is the traditional vessel of the Arcachon Bay. Appearing in the late 19th century for fishing, oyster farming and transport, it has become the absolute symbol of a certain Gironde elegance: family outings, oyster tastings, private events, weddings on the bay. Traditionally built from Landes maritime pine (the source of its name), it is recognisable by its slender silhouette, its flat bottom giving access to the most delicate areas of the bay (Île aux Oiseaux, Banc d’Arguin, cabanes tchanquées), and its raised bow for chop.

Typical original architecture. Wooden or polyester hull of around 10 metres for the classic pinasse (9 to 10.10 m at reference yards such as Dubourdieu), beam 2.90 m, capacity up to 12 people (skipper included), inboard thermal motor of around 110 horsepower. A slow, contemplative boat, tuned to the bay’s rhythm and tides.

The Lanéva conversion. The pinasse is the archetypal retrofit candidate: moderate speed, short distances, highly predictable cruising profile, intense seasonal use, and navigation in a natural environment of exceptional ecological sensitivity (natural marine park, Natura 2000 zones, shellfish farming). Electric motor of 40 to 80 kW comfortably covering original performance, battery pack of 40 to 80 kWh depending on outing duration, overnight quayside recharging. For professional operators, the feasibility study is eligible for energy-transition funding schemes.

On board, you will experience… the bay as it was a century ago. The silent glide of the pinasse over the water, without the diesel that drowned out the landscape’s breathing. Renewed access to the most sensitive zones, guilt-free. For operators: a powerful marketing message – “navigating the bay without emitting” – and contained operating costs.
