A signature of the Dutch lakes. The Brandaris Barkas 1100 is one of the most respected yachts in contemporary Dutch yachting. The name evokes the historic Brandaris lighthouse on Terschelling, in the Wadden Sea – one of the oldest active lighthouses in the Netherlands, built in 1594, an absolute reference point for North Sea sailors. The boat that bears the name is in its image: robust, timeless, built for the temperamental waters of the North as much as for Mediterranean marinas. Successively built by several reference yards – Twije Watersport, Mogano Shipbuilding, Jachtwerf Charlois – it comes in Open versions (Pur Sang, Limited Edition, Supersport) and Cabin, each a built-to-order high-end object.

Original architecture. Composite GRP hull with deep-V keel, 11 m long, 3.00 to 3.10 m beam, 0.70–0.75 m draft, light displacement around 5,500 kg. Twin thermal motorisation, Yanmar diesel on two shaft lines – typically 2 × 260 hp, 2 × 315 hp or 2 × 350 hp depending on configuration – top speed up to 38 knots. Teak deck, mahogany-teak joinery, forward sundeck, double-berth cabin, shower, toilets, Webasto heating, bow and stern thrusters. A boat designed for elegant day cruising and coastal weekends, midway between gentleman’s cruiser and sport boat.

The Lanéva conversion. The Barkas 1100 is a particularly interesting case: the Brandaris yard itself launched in 2025 an official Supersport Hybrid version – proof that the hull and the model’s philosophy lend themselves perfectly to electrification. Our retrofit follows the same logic with two distinctive features: we can handle units already in service (not just new builds), and we offer both fully electric and hybrid routes depending on the usage programme.

Fully electric route: twin electric motors on original shaft lines (typically 2 × 150 to 200 kW depending on the Yanmar power to substitute), high-density battery pack of 150 to 200 kWh, AC + DC recharging. Top speed and seaworthy character preserved on short to mid-range outings. Recommended for day cruising and coastal weekends in zones where the electric transition makes sense (Dutch lakes, protected Mediterranean bays, Arcachon Bay, Côte d’Azur).

Hybrid route: combines two electric motors for silent operation near ports and at anchor with a compact diesel generator set for long-range transfers – precisely the logic Brandaris chose for the Supersport Hybrid. Ideal for owners who want to keep their original diesel polyvalence without giving up the benefits of electric.

On board, you will experience… a Barkas 1100 that has lost none of its spirit. In fully electric form, acceleration is sharper still than with the twin Yanmars – immediate torque makes it instantly responsive at the helm. In hybrid form, you get the best of both worlds: absolute silence at anchor and in regulated channels, thermal range preserved for transfers. Either way: no more diesel fumes on the aft sundeck, no more vibrations cramping long cruises, no more double fill-ups. And full alignment with what Brandaris itself has already understood by going hybrid.
